"Hypnotic Control: 20 Lectures on Suggestion and Autosuggestion" The author of this book, William W. Atkinson, is a pioneer of the American New Thought Movement and a famous master of the Law of Attraction. He combined Eastern philosophy with Western spiritual research and wrote many books throughout his life. The word "suggestion" comes from the Latin word "suggestus," whose base word is "suggero," meaning "to pass under." The original use of the word contained the meaning of "putting it down" or subtly alluding to a thought, concept or impression through careful and vigilant observation, and then entering the individual's "inner consciousness". As used generally, this means using a hint or other indirect form of calling another person's attention. But in addition to this use, there is a more precise use of the word, namely, a tacit and discreet allusion to an idea, so that the hearer is not explicitly aware that he is receiving a suggestion and he is inclined to think that the idea came from his own brain and from his own intellectual activity. Suggestion is such an active principle of motion in human action that when we turn our direct attention to the subject we see that man himself cannot escape the various evidences of its operation. Each seed of suggestion has a high probability of finding a foothold in harmony with its respective ideas in a mind receptive to new ideas.
