"Always on Top" is a collection of short stories by contemporary American writer David Foster Wallace. It contains nine wonderful and unique short stories with different styles, including the highly acclaimed masterpiece "Always on Top" and the O. Henry Short Story Award-winning work "The Good Old Neon". Through these nine stories, Wallace explores dreams, reality, trauma, and the profound nature of human consciousness in his unique way. With his astonishing insight and literary genius, his swirling language storms, comic-like character scenes, dry humorous writing style and deep philosophical thinking, Wallace depicts for the world the confusion, disorder and loneliness in our hearts in the bizarre modern life.

I especially like the story "Always on Top", the portrayal of the characters in it is simply amazing! For example, "That's what my mother looks like now. It turns out that during a plastic surgery, the incision only needs to slide off this way and that, and you will look like the person taking a bath in the Hitchcock movie." This sentence made me immediately imagine what my mother looked like. Moreover, Wallace's exploration of reality and dreams was also very in-depth, which made me think about my own life. All in all, this is a book well worth reading!
