This book is a unique anti-war novel. The author created Billy, a schizophrenic patient. Through the unique feelings of this silly protagonist, on the one hand he condemned the brutality of German fascism, and on the other hand he criticized the barbaric behavior of the Allied bombing of Dresden and laughed at the stupidity of human beings in waging war.
