The author Ellery Quinn is really great at writing such a gripping plot. Reminds me of the work of Agatha Christie. Her "No Survivor" is also in this style, where every character is full of suspicion. And I especially like the character Ellery Quinn in the book. His wisdom and calmness are admirable. I think he is like Sherlock Holmes, always able to find clues and solve mysteries from the smallest details. I really wish I could have a mind like his!
I have read half of the physical book and half of the e-book. I particularly like the "tragedy series", so I am looking forward to Mr. Quinn. But after reading it, I can only say that it is not that amazing. I blame myself for being born in the wrong era. In this era, reasoning is indeed nothing unusual. The title of the book is a bit suggestive. However, the reasoning about checkers and iodine and the final chase are still very exciting.
On an unrelated note, when I was a child, I saw the fourth murder scene in this book in a domestic serial magazine. It was a psychological shadow. It also explained the discomfort of being able to only see a small part of the book.
