The second novel of Miss Marple, it feels like the series has been getting better and better since then, and the shadow of this work can be seen in many works of later generations. First of all, the characters began to be clear and concise, unlike in "The Apartment" where everyone appeared one after another to disturb the reading, and the irrelevant characters were reduced, making every character suspect. Secondly, the method of committing the crime is even more interesting. The trick of substituting one thing for another is both unexpected and reasonable. In the end, Miss Marple's wonderful reasoning and verification arouse the reader's tension and at the same time make people suddenly realize that everything is traceable. The plot of this book is so exciting! In particular, in order to defend her husband's reputation, Mrs. Bantry invited her friend Miss Marple to investigate the case, which made me see the tenacity and wisdom of women. Moreover, Agatha Christie's writing is very visual, and reading it is like watching a movie. I felt like a detective in a book, following clues to uncover the truth step by step. You guessed it right, it's Josie, because as mentioned before, it is very similar to "Nemesis", sisters, adoption, jealousy, and love. The adopted cousin, Josie, who wanted money and love, sheltered Mark and fell into the abyss. The dead are too innocent, and the wronged are isolated. The rumors are terrible. Only when the truth is revealed can everyone's hearts be healed. People are always similar.

There are many characters, but in the final analysis they are not that complicated. It feels tiring but not satisfying. I am probably used to detective stories from Poirot's main perspective, but this is Miss Marple's first one.

Yeah, a pretty gimmicky trick, isn't it? Fortunately, the characters in this book are not that complex and are easier to remember. Finally, girls, don't trust anyone.

When I saw it 50% of the time, I thought I had guessed the murderer. Hahaha. But I really like the ending! Beautiful, interesting and unexpected!

At the end, the puzzle-solving part seemed to be turned on at double speed. The case is quite interesting. Colonel Bantry and his wife are well portrayed, especially Mrs. Bantry, whose image of perseverance and turbulence is vividly reflected on the page.
