Bai Yichen held a cigarette between his lips, exhaling one ring of smoke after another. Through the haze, his handsome face seemed thoughtful as he grabbed Zhou Xixi.
His voice was low, slightly hoarse, and tentative. "I hear you like me? How come I didn't know?"
Zhou Xixi was momentarily at a loss for words, too nervous to figure out what to say. As Bai Yichen moved closer, she instinctively backed away until she was pressed into a corner.
Bai Yichen braced both hands against the wall, trapping Zhou Xixi in front of him. Seeing her avoid his gaze, he kissed her without warning.
Zhou Xixi froze. In a panic, she tried to push Bai Yichen away with all her strength, but he didn't budge. Tears slid from the corners of her eyes. Bai Yichen let her go, then stood there in frustration, not knowing what to do with himself.
Zhou Xixi wiped away her tears, angry and hurt. "Creep."
Bai Yichen gazed at Zhou Xixi with longing, his eyes traveling down her neck and collarbone. Her fair skin showed beneath the neckline of her off-the-shoulder dress…
I think it's normal for the male protagonist to be unclean. After all, how can a true prodigal be clean? The pace of the book is fast and there is no sloppiness. I haven't finished reading it yet, but when I read that the male and female protagonists are together, and the male protagonist is a prodigal son, I can't read the contrast, and I can't read that the male protagonist truly loves the female protagonist.
