A sweet, gentle Peking opera performer vs. a business tycoon who claims he’s fulfilling his grandfather’s wish but really wants to win back his wife
Teng Zichuan came to the Kyoto Peking Opera Theater to find Master Xiao’s final disciple and sing for his grandfather, fulfilling the old man’s wish.
The first time they met, Kan Suisui was taking off her makeup. Her face was covered in cold cream and flushed red, and only her big eyes remained visible. She looked utterly innocent, nothing like the cool and resolute Consort Yu she portrayed onstage.
Everyone knew that Second Young Master Teng never fell in love and cared only about work. No one expected that one night he would pin his nephew against a table and say,
“I met her first.”
“I did.”
Again and again, he declared his claim, wild-eyed and red-faced.
Kan Suisui was the second child in the Kan family. Through a twist of fate, she got a Kyoto household registration, and her parents entrusted her to their neighbor, Master Xiao. She studied Peking opera from elementary school, later becoming a performer secretly trained by the opera academy, and eventually landing a permanent position as a Peking opera performer.
The eldest sister had it hard, the youngest was still little,
And the second daughter was the one who got bullied the most.
An unloved second daughter met a pampered young master.
She thought he wouldn’t understand, but she was wrong. No matter what, he always took her side, without question.
Bonus scene:
Teng Zichuan, who never posted on social media, had recently started sharing posts from the Peking Opera Theater’s official account every day. He was handing out tickets everywhere and asking people to vote in family, friends, and work group chats.
Everyone opened the post and saw that a hairpin-and-phoenix performance by a girl like a Chinese doll was coming up.
Teng “Iron Tree” Zichuan, who had never fallen in love, was finally about to bloom.
After searching for so long, it turned out to be love at first sight.
