I would like to dedicate this book to the ancestors who sacrificed their lives for the victory of the Anti-Japanese War! In 1937, the Anti-Japanese War broke out. People from the lowest level of society, such as Titie Liu, Ma Baoye, Ma Bao Lao, Zhuanggu Lao (Zhuang people), Shan Yao Lao, and Shui Yao Lao, all entered the army with the idea of having enough food and clothing. This miscellaneous army not only has to fight to the death with the well-equipped Japanese army, but also beware of "losing soldiers to save cars" in the rear. They didn't have enough to eat, didn't wear warm clothes, and didn't have heavy machine guns. They only relied on machetes and screams to scare the enemy's courage, and when necessary, they used their bodies to die with the Japanese. During his lifetime, the author's grandfather recounted the legendary anti-Japanese years of his comrades with a heavy and mournful mood. The 500-man regiment, 20 detours, 10 battles, 1 living soldier, but the 500-man regiment never left. Every year during the Qingming Festival and Double Ninth Festival, grandpa would raise the battle flag and use a pot of wine to commemorate the soldiers who had sacrificed but were still "alive".
