She was the late emperor's only daughter, raised from birth to inherit the throne. After her father's death, she smoothly became the first empress in the dynasty's history.

For the sake of the people and to be a wise and enlightened ruler, she hid all her wicked thoughts and desires.

During a prayer ceremony at a temple, the empress earned the first stain on her record as ruler: she forcibly brought a cold and celestial-looking young Buddhist monk back to the palace and kept him hidden deep within the inner chambers.

The palace was abuzz with gossip. Everyone said the wise empress was doomed, and that power would eventually fall into the hands of her relatives.

But days passed without incident. The empress continued her usual routine, attending court, allocating funds, opening the granaries, and reducing taxes. The people praised her without end, as though she had cast the young monk away among the clouds.

"The empress is truly wise! She must have been guided by the gods to bring the young monk back to the palace. You lot are simply narrow-minded."

Little did they know that as soon as night fell, the empress revealed every one of her wicked desires in the young monk's bedchamber.

When the Xiongnu launched a fierce invasion of the borders, the empress decided to lead the army herself. She planned to let the poor young monk go, reward him with ten thousand taels of gold, and find him a good wife so he could live out the rest of his life in peace.

"Have you grown tired of me, Your Majesty? You don't want me anymore?"

Di Tianwu was just about to explain when the young monk tore away his mask of virtue and clasped her fingers in his. "My sweet, it's too late..."
