Though the Vermilion Bird had shields, the insectoid attack still inflicted serious damage on several decks and compartments. Many people were sucked out of the ship through the breaches torn open by the attack.
“Fire all weapons. Report the damage.”
“Captain, our No. 1 and No. 2 main engines are badly damaged. We can’t jump. The No. 3 and No. 4 auxiliary engines are in good condition, and we have plenty of weapons energy.”
The engine room supervisor checked the readings as he reported the damage to Lin Xuan.
“Detected: They’re launching another salvo.”
“Hard to port, five. Divert fifty percent of our energy to the shields. Fire the rest of our weapons.”
