Magic City

"Magic City" is a compilation work that selects Shanghai-related articles from many works written by Japanese writer Muramatsu Sofeng. It mainly contains the author's travels in Shanghai and surrounding areas in the 1920s. In this book, Muramatsu Feng has an in-depth experience of Shanghai's bustling neighborhoods and entertainment venues, visited China's new educational institutions, had close contacts with China's progressive literati, and visited the garden scenery of Hangzhou, Suzhou and other places. He was surprised by the all-encompassing characteristics of the international metropolis Shanghai. He used intuitive and vivid words to describe his experiences in Shanghai. He used the image of "Magic City" to refer to Shanghai for the first time, reflecting the complex and diverse historical features of old Shanghai. The book is divided into four volumes, with many illustrations.
