"Tomb raiding" "Mystery" "The Iron Triangle"
I’d read The Grave Robbers' Chronicles and Ghost Blows Out the Light. Stories of the underworld really are captivating, and those fantastical sights beyond anything you’ve ever heard of are hard to forget.
I closed the book, thinking that these fictional tales had come to an end. Then, at an archaeological society meeting in Beijing, I met an old gentleman, and a new story of this kind quietly began.
The old gentleman is advanced in years now, but when he was young, he was the leader of a tomb-raiding organization. He loved chatting with people in the field about his younger days. I thought his stories would amount to no more than a few words, but he went on for a whole day. And what surprised me even more was that this strange, uncanny underworld really existed.
If a story gives people more than reality does, should it be continued?
“Go ahead, sir. I’ll write it down.”
“My name is Fang Xiaoqi…”
