Lan Yunmeng is the legitimate daughter of Lan Feng, the undefeated general of Chang'an. Because she was born bald, no one came to ask for her hand in marriage, even by the time she turned eighteen. Lan Feng wanted to marry her off to Zhang Jian, the son of General Zhang, who cannot speak. Furious, Lan Yunmeng runs away from home. Later, in the Yufeng Kingdom, she unexpectedly saves the crown prince, Zhang Yan, and becomes his personal guard. From then on, the bickering pair embark on a tangled romance of love and resentment. When the emperor of Yufeng unexpectedly dies, Zhang Yan, with help from Lan Yunmeng and their many like-minded friends, defeats Prince Chengyang. He successfully ascends the throne as the new emperor of Yufeng, while Lan Yunmeng marries him and becomes the kingdom's bald empress.
