Taoist Adept Meets Cyberpunk

A hapless fellow lived too short a life in his previous one. As a result, he was reborn in another world and adopted by an old Daoist into a sect with only the two of them. When the hapless fellow was old enough to understand, the old Daoist gave him a name: Li Haoming. He took the old Daoist's surname, and his given name also served as his Daoist title. Now that he had a name, Li Haoming studied all kinds of wondrous Daoist arts under the old Daoist and slowly grew up. Just when Li Haoming thought he wouldn't be as unlucky in this life as he had been in his last, misfortune struck again. The old Daoist passed the position of sect leader to Li Haoming, then ascended straight to the Immortal Realm, leaving him behind at the sect. Having learned a whole repertoire of Daoist arts, Li Haoming felt unbearably lonely in a sect where he was the only one left. So, at eighteen, he left the sect and tried to recruit a few disciples to give it some appearance of prosperity. But the world beyond the sect was almost devoid of spiritual energy, and ordinary people had entered the cyberpunk era. Li Haoming's Daoist arts held little appeal for them. Want superhuman vision? Just get a pair of cybernetic eyes from a prosthetics doctor. Want immense strength? Get a set of high-performance muscles made from carbon nanotubes. Want an unbreakable body? Get a full metal skeleton and nanofiber skin from a prosthetics doctor... After learning all this, Li Haoming felt like someone who had spent his life mastering the art of slaying dragons in the mountains, only to discover that everyone in the outside world could slay dragons. And Li Haoming was fundamentally nothing like those cybernetic people... So, to avoid being dissected for research, he went straight to Hope City, a border city where advanced technology and chaos coexisted.
