Vast Waters, Come Back to Me

(A heads-up: The heroine is gentle in temperament. This is not a strong-female power fantasy, and there will be no revenge plot. It has a happy ending. [Delicate and frail beauty Luo × cold, calculating, and ambitious Chancellor Pei] Miss Luo of the capital came down with a bad cold, and afterward she seemed much more clearheaded. She knew exactly what she had to do: give Pei Yanqing no chance to climb the social ladder through her, and keep him away from Qi Zhen. That way, the Luo family would be safe. But what if interfering cost him his life? There would never be another Pei Yanqing in all the world... Luo Yang took him in and tried to teach him to repay kindness with loyalty. In the end, she even fell in love with him. But she forgot that some people are trapped in the mire, and will seize any chance to claw their way up, no matter who they hurt. Pei Yanqing was one of those people, struggling in the mire. When Pei Yanqing had achieved fame and success, Luo Yang held a dagger to her throat and said, each word deliberate: “Pei Yanqing, I’m frail and won’t live long. Don’t worry, you don’t have to kill me yourself. I won’t hold you back from climbing ever higher and becoming the most powerful man in the court.” As Pei Yanqing watched the dagger edge closer, panic seized him. He coaxed her softly, “A-Yang, be good. We can take our time figuring out what to do about the Luo family.” Later, Pei Yanqing resigned his post before Qi Zhen. “Your Majesty, the realm is yours. Yangyang is mine.” Pei Yanqing: “I thought I could control everything: the world, power, and Miss Luo’s heart. In the end, I was the one who fell too deep to escape.”
