Down-on-his-luck young Wang Can runs a barbecue stall on a snack street, selling only lamb skewers and grilled yellow croaker, hoping to marry his childhood sweetheart. One night, amid torrential rain and crashing thunder, Wang Can and his two companions are struck by a bolt of purple lightning just after returning from a supermarket. To their astonishment, all three transmigrate to the Tang Dynasty. Wang Can takes the name Wang Chen and accidentally awakens a strange ability. He sets up a barbecue stall outside Chang'an, where business booms until the emperor discovers him. From then on, he leads a life of effortless success, rising ever higher until he becomes emperor.
