After their father is murdered by a manor owner, brothers Feilong and Feihu flee under the secret protection of their uncle Zhang Lin. After enduring countless hardships, they are rescued by an old hunter, learn to hunt, and depend on each other for survival. Years later, the old man’s son, who serves in the Kuomintang army, suddenly returns home with a group of men to take his father away. Unable to leave the land he knows so well, the old hunter entrusts the brothers to his son and joins his unit. After several years of training, the brothers come of age, and their desire to return home and avenge their father grows ever stronger, though they have no opportunity to do so.
As luck would have it, bandits begin causing trouble in their hometown, and the manor owner’s home is robbed several times. The manor owner’s son is the commander of the brothers’ unit, so he sends a detachment back to help defend the area. Commander Hou thinks highly of Feilong and appoints him captain. Feihu also manages to join the defense force. The brothers begin plotting their revenge for their father. But Feilong falls for the manor owner’s daughter, and the manor owner is also quite pleased with him. Marriage plans gradually take shape, and Feilong soon forgets all about avenging his father, preferring to pursue a promising career and a comfortable life. His younger brother Feihu repeatedly warns him not to side with his father’s killer by marrying the enemy’s daughter, but Feilong stubbornly ignores his advice and insists on marrying Miss Hou. With no other choice, Feihu finally confronts Feilong and sets out on the path of revenge alone...
