She thought their arranged marriage would condemn her to a lifetime of mutual resentment with someone she didn’t love. She never expected him to cherish her to the very core after they married.

Nan Yiheng: “Then let’s make a bet. If you lose, your punishment is to be my woman in this life, the next, and every life after that.”

Gu Ningxi: “And what if you lose?”

Nan Yiheng: “Then my punishment is to be your man forever.”

Gu Ningxi: “Somehow, I feel like I’m the one getting the raw end of the deal!”

Before Gu Ningxi could react, Nan Yiheng let go of her waist and toppled backward into the deep end of the pool, still wearing a confident look.

“Hey, what are you doing? We haven’t even decided what we’re betting on!” Sensing something was wrong, Gu Ningxi leaped into the pool as she spoke.

They hit the water less than three seconds apart. Underwater, Nan Yiheng kissed Gu Ningxi and breathed air into her. When he saw her blink, as if she wanted to say something, he wrapped both arms around her waist and pulled her toward the surface. At last, they broke through the water. With droplets still clinging to his lips, Nan Yiheng said smugly, “The bet is whether you’d rush in to save me the moment I fell into the water!” Then he kissed her red lips again. After their lips and tongues had been entwined for a while, Gu Ningxi braced a hand against Nan Yiheng’s shoulder and eased them apart. “So, will you admit defeat, Mrs. Nan?” he continued.

Gu Ningxi curled her lips into a smile. “I admit defeat. You win, Mr. Nan!”
