"Zhongshu Menxia System" is the core concept proposed in this book to cover the political system in the middle and late Tang Dynasty. This system grew up within the framework of the original "Three Provinces System". Its basic characteristics are that the prime minister's office under Zhongshu's sect is the center, decision-making and administration are unified, and the six departments of Shangshu and internal and external envoys are the administrative subjects. The filing and ruling of national government affairs relies on a government document system that is different from that under the three-province system, forming a new government operation mechanism. This system was initially established in the eleventh year of Kaiyuan when Zhang Shuozhuo changed the political affairs hall to Zhongshu's sect. After the development and evolution of the middle and late Tang Dynasty and the Five Dynasties, it laid the foundation of the political system of the Northern Song Dynasty. This book strives to get rid of the static descriptions in previous institutional history research and clarify the confusion caused by the understanding of the Tang Dynasty's institutions in the writings of Song people. Starting from basic historical materials such as government documents, it studies the actual operating institutions and their changes in various periods of the Tang Dynasty, in order to establish a narrative framework that is conducive to describing the overall changes in the political system of the Tang Dynasty.
