Hu Shi was one of the leaders of the New Culture Movement. His original name was Si Ji, his scientific name was Hong Wei, and later his name was changed to Hu Shi, whose courtesy name was Shizhi. He was a native of Jixi, Anhui Province. Deeply influenced by Huxley and Dewey, Hu Shi advocated liberalism and skepticism throughout his life, and used the monthly magazine "New Youth" as a platform to promote democracy and science. This book starts from Hu Shi's growth experience and vividly and meticulously describes his ups and downs in life and academic thoughts.

This is a freedom-loving man, this is a lonely man! It seems like nothing has been done, yet it seems like everything has been done! It was a wise move to leave back then, right?
Love listening to this book and cherish this book! Classic reading!
Wow, this book "Biographies of Masters of the Republic of China·Hu Shi" looks very interesting! Hu Shi's life experience is really rich. From his growth experience, we can see that he is a very talented person. I find his academic thoughts very inspiring, especially his advocacy of liberalism. This reminds me of the characters in "The Age of Awakening". They are all working hard for the progress of the country and the liberation of their minds. I really like the part in the book that describes Hu Shi's parents, especially Feng Shundi's sensibleness and diligence, which moved me very much. I think this book will give me a deeper understanding of the culture and ideas of that era. I look forward to sharing more feelings with you after reading it!
Hu Shizhi, in today's China, many people praise him and many reject him. However, political stance is not mentioned, just from the perspective of scholarship, he is the right person for everyone at the time!
After reading the book, I have a superficial understanding of Hu Shi's life. In the first half of Hu Shi's life, before he left Peking with the Kuomintang, he did what he wanted to do and achieved success. When he arrived in the United States, he only had troubles in life. Returning to Taiwan was his "death acceleration". Decades of hard work were completely denied, and he was exhausted physically and mentally.
Freedom of spirit and independence of personality are already demanding. How lucky you are to have such a time!
The content in the book is not bad, it is informative about people and the world.
A very objective book
The writing is vivid and concrete, suitable for young people who want to make progress.
"A model of old morality in the new culture, and a teacher of new ideas in the old ethics." People who carry forward the past and link up the future. In the first half of their lives, they pioneered and innovated and were high-spirited. In the second half of their lives, they were depressed and failed to fulfill their ambitions. What a pity!
