Four million years ago, Huoyun Cave vanished from the mortal world. Soon afterward, the Three Sovereigns, the Five Emperors, and other powerful figures of humanity disappeared as well. The gods and Buddhas of the heavens, who had once held back out of caution, began acting without restraint. They built Buddha kingdoms and divine domains. The gods and Buddhas would bring down disasters whenever anything displeased them, while both sides fought fiercely over the power of worship and faith. The mortal world was strewn with corpses, its severed limbs making it look like a living hell.
Three million years ago, a young man named Zhao Zheng rallied a group of mortal cultivators and like-minded people. Leading humanity in rebellion against the gods and Buddhas, he founded the Qin Dynasty. Using a secret technique left behind by the Human Emperor Fuxi and modeled on the Nine Provinces Yellow Cauldron, he built twelve golden-armored warriors to fight the gods and Buddhas of the heavens. This won humanity a brief period of peace, and the people affectionately called him the First Emperor. But open attacks were easy to fend off, while hidden ones were hard to guard against. The First Emperor and his ministers and generals were besieged by the gods and Buddhas at his palace in the dunes, where they met their end. The mortal world fell into chaos. To punish humanity, the gods and Buddhas unleashed endless natural disasters and plagues, and even let their demonic mounts run rampant through the world.
Whether moved by heaven and earth or by the spirits of all things, a tremendous boom rang out from Flower-Fruit Mountain in the eastern kingdom of Aolai, a land on the brink of extinction. Then came a cry: “Your Grandpa Sun is back!” The human immortals and Buddhas who had been in seclusion awoke one after another. Among their leaders were the Three-Eyed Divine General and the Third Prince Nezha. The rebellion against Heaven officially began. Led by these three, the human immortals and Buddhas rose against the gods and Buddhas of the heavens. Their battle shook heaven and earth, plunged the sky into darkness, and left countless dead and wounded on both sides. Later, after the Third Prince Nezha’s father and brothers betrayed them, the Three-Eyed Divine General and the Monkey were sealed inside the Star Demon Stone, leaving the human immortals and Buddhas on the brink of defeat. At the critical moment, the Lord of the Moon sacrificed himself and the remaining human immortals. Using lunar power as his guide and the moon as the formation’s core, he established the Great Yin Formation of Myriad Calamities, sealing off Heaven and cutting it off from Earth. At last, the mortal world found peace.
