When the Song Falls Silent

Lin Yaxuan was the most powerful Vermilion Bird deity in the Three Realms, yet she gave up all her immortal pills for him and fell to the mortal world as a demon.

A century later, she returned from the ashes as a mighty empress, bent on revenge. When her former lover welcomed his “benefactor” as his bride with a grand wedding procession, she merely raised a hand and gave him a cup of familiar poison. “Now it’s your turn to taste it.”

Everyone thought this was a long-delayed revenge.

That was, until she used the Kunlun Mirror to reveal the truth: the artifact that pierced her divine body had been her own, and she herself had chosen to shatter her immortal pills. The deepest pain, it turned out, was not placing her trust in the wrong person, but pushing herself into the abyss with her own hands.

When the Wenchang Emperor knelt before the mirror, broken with remorse, she merely smiled and brushed her sleeve. “There’s no need to atone. I chose my own suffering. Please choose your own future, too.”

Still waters flow, the music of the cangsheng sings; across three lifetimes, the moon waxes and wanes, joys and sorrows come and go. Flowers fall, music fades, the strings fall silent, and people vanish. Fate begins across three lifetimes, falls into the mortal world, and ends when the music stops and the people part.
