Hong Xiguan’s Battle Against the White Lotus Cult

After Hong Xiguan, an heir of Southern Shaolin, bathed Mount Emei in blood and avenged the great wrong done to his masters, he returned to Guangzhou and set about rebuilding Shaolin Temple. On the day it was completed, Hong Xiguan invited Monk Qingcao to serve as abbot, while Zhang Meng, the Crossing-the-River Dragon, became a monk and head instructor of the Thirty-Six Chambers. At that time, the Lin and Zhao villages at the foot of Jiulian Mountain were fighting over farmland, and a brawl broke out. With the help of Shaolin disciples Hong Xiguan and Lu Acai, the Zhao family defeated the Lin family. The Lin family appealed to the martial world for help, setting off a major assault on Shaolin Temple by Fang Yulong, the Skinny Monkey, and Daoist Wuji of Mount Wudang. After a bitter struggle, Hong Xiguan knocked Fang Yulong off a cliff. Wudang disciples rushed to the back mountain to search for him, but beneath the precipice they found two broken branches and bloodstains everywhere, with no sign of Fang Yulong’s body. Convinced that Fang Yulong must still be alive and had merely fled elsewhere while wounded, they followed his footprints deep into the mountains. To find out what happens next, read the story.
