Aliens mysteriously visited the earth and then left, leaving behind six highly radioactive and highly polluted visit areas.
For more than 30 years, those who came into contact with it either had their skin peeled off and died, or gave birth to deformed monsters. Zombies crawled out of nearby cemeteries and wandered around the world.
But there are still some people who, in order to make a living, wander around the murderous visiting areas, reselling high-tech items left by aliens, and live a life of bloodshed.
They are called "Stalkers".
Fear of death, greed for money, resentment against fate... They gradually twisted and collapsed in the torture.
However, if this catastrophe for mankind is just an unintentional roadside picnic by aliens, is it still worth all the painful struggles and all the weak hope in despair?

The setting of this book is very novel. It reminded me of the days when I worked in a factory, doing repetitive tasks every day and feeling very bored. The protagonist in the book is like me, working hard for life. I hate the lab assistant at the Hammont branch of the International Institute of Extraterrestrial Cultures. His job is too boring, and he keeps moving those empty boxes. However, this book also made me think about whether our lives are like those empty boxes, seemingly full but actually empty. Maybe we should also look for the true meaning in life like the protagonist.
Different from the sci-fi vision of human civilization in a magnificent and gorgeous universe in the golden age of science fiction, human beings are as small as ants on the roadside, and the visit of aliens is just a roadside picnic. All human cognition is just wishful thinking, just like ants studying human beings...
This is undoubtedly a good book worth reading, not only because of its unrestrained science fiction imagination, but also because of the criticism of reality and the praise of the great side of human beings revealed in it. [Like][Like][Like]
May everyone be happy! Free! Have as much happiness as you want! Everyone come together! Enough happiness for everyone! No one will be forgotten! Free! Happiness! Free! "
Is it a bit sad that the classic masterpiece has no one?
No one reads this classic masterpiece, it's sad and sad
The "picnic theory" proposed in the novel interestingly punctures anthropocentrism. Human beings are not the protagonists of the world and are not given special care by the universe. Aliens are just like travelers who come to Earth, have a picnic, leave a pile of garbage, and then leave. There is no conquest or invasion. The visit area and the alien relics are just bits and pieces they left behind. Human beings think these are "gifts" left behind on purpose, and they try their best to decipher them, trying to find the ultimate mystery of the universe from this pile of garbage. I didn't expect that I was just passing by.
The Strugatsky brothers, who lived behind the Iron Curtain, used science fiction to break through the confinement ~ Intelligence is the ability of living things to perform meaningless or abnormal behaviors. Inherited Lem's "absurdity of human cognitive universalism".
There are no superheroes, and the aliens' picnic leaves a push of unknowns, forming an epidemic zone. Human beings are frightened, suffering blindness and death. The scientists are confused, and the stalkers are fearless, filled with a little courage. Because it is unknown, we can only substitute, nuts, insect traps, gravity rise points, empty boxes, silver spider webs, hell venom, screamers, golden balls...
Red burrowed into the rubble, walked through the quarry, and walked towards the dancing and shining golden ball... Those bastards didn't let me learn how to think... Look at my soul... I never sold my soul to anyone! It belongs entirely to me, and there is still humanity left in it! You can figure out for yourself what I want, because I know that my wish cannot be evil! …I can't think of anything except his words – I hope everyone is happy and free, and I hope no one will be forgotten!
Love Stalker, love it
I hope that in a few decades there will still be people who read this book and are left thinking.
Come here because of its reputation, wonderful
Looking for the faint light in the dark fog. Charming story, great to read.

Life is fragile and thoughts are boundless. Human beings will be short-sighted, deceive one another, feel pain, and be as weak as cattails before higher civilization. But even so, even so, I want to believe that the existence of this species living on Blue Star and my compatriots is not meaningless. Even if you are unable to pursue eternal happiness, you can still discover tiny glimmers of light. Small love may also be great.
Very beautiful, very exciting
Nice looking, a new idea
The visiting area may be the embodiment of difficulties and force majeure in life, and the golden ball may be a tool for the protagonist to open up his heart.
The ending is truly a stroke of genius, and the postscript makes me feel sad for the author.
