Colonial-Era Hong Kong Through My Eyes

The author of this book, Ms. Michelle To, is a British person who has worked in Hong Kong for half a century. During her more than 50 years in politics, she has been helping the people at the bottom of Hong Kong fight for democracy and providing assistance. She is also an educator respected by Hong Kong people. This book has a clear stance. Although the author is British, she is also very opposed to British colonial rule. This also reflects the persuasiveness and formality of the book. This book exposes the darkness and corruption of society at that time, and also shows readers the true history, which is worth reading.

This book gave me a deeper understanding of Hong Kong's history and opened my eyes to the injustices of colonial rule. Ms. Yeshien To's views are inspiring, and her experiences and struggles resonate with me. I have also worked hard for my dreams and know how difficult it is. Some of the nasty characters mentioned in the book reminded me of some of the injustices and difficulties I encountered in life, but Ms. Du Yesion's persistence and courage gave me great encouragement. I think this is a book worth reading, especially for people who want to understand Hong Kong history and society.

Facing any colony, I think the local people living there are in dire straits, have no sense of security, and may lose their lives at any time. This book uses the author's unique perspective and personal experience to outline the true appearance of Hong Kong during the colonial era. Through her narrative, I was able to understand the impact of colonial rule on Hong Kong society and the living conditions of different groups during the colonial era. This true and vivid description made me feel like I was in that era and personally experienced the changes in history.

This book is written by Ms. Michelle To during her lifetime about what she saw and heard while living in Hong Kong for half a century. It witnesses the historical process of Hong Kong from the colonial era to the return of Hong Kong, and expresses the view of social injustice under the colonial system. It is of extraordinary significance. It helps readers understand and understand the development of Hong Kong in the past half century. It is equivalent to a memoir and can be roughly divided into two parts. The first part is a criticism of the corruption of the Hong Kong police system and the democratic reform of the British Hong Kong government. The second part expresses condemnation of the "countless absence" of the United States. After reading this article, I understood the true situation of Hong Kong under colonial rule at that time.

The colonial era of Hong Kong refers to the period when Hong Kong was under British colonial rule, starting in 1841 until Hong Kong returned to China in 1997. During this period, Hong Kong experienced numerous social, economic and cultural changes. During the colonial era, Hong Kong was ruled by the British colonial government, the British legal and administrative system was introduced into Hong Kong, and English became the main administrative and educational language. In this book, the author gives his own understanding of this unique historical period.

This book deserves to be read by every Hong Konger. Understand what the colonial era was and the various policies that discriminated against the Chinese. I was born and raised in this colonial era, and Elsie To was a household name. The content in the book feels very sad when I read it. Why can the colonists cultivate some Chinese people to discriminate against their own compatriots? I hope that the strength of the motherland and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation can protect generations of Chinese people from being discriminated against.

If the world tells me that there are Buddhas, Gods, and angels in this world, I don't think I will believe it. I can explain to the world with a scientific and rigorous attitude. This is just a beautiful belief. But now I have to believe it, because if I were to introduce Yexin Du in a scientific and rigorous manner, I think I can only say that she is Buddha, she is God, and she is an angel left on earth.

Through her perspective, she saw part of the real environment in Hong Kong at that time, but from a limited perspective, it was not comprehensive. The biggest insight after reading this book is that everyone's perspective is very limited. Judging something is no longer black and white. Each of us can only see the surface of a sphere.
