A Merchant's Daughter Knows No Sorrow

There are nine streets in Chang’an, and my Bai family has shops on eight of them. Everyone says the Bai family’s daughter is rich enough to own half the city, but my moon-bright husband only looks down on me for being born into a merchant family. But, dear husband, when I love you, you are the bright moon in the sky. When I don’t, you’re no more than a weed beneath it. The moment we divorced, I took my vast fortune and walked away without leaving behind a single copper coin. He was left wearing a green hat and bearing a tarnished reputation, with no idea what to do. In the end, he had to make a living selling calligraphy and paintings on the street. When we met again, I smiled. “Selling your wares on the street makes you lower than a merchant, doesn’t it?”
