In 997 AD, the land of England fell into boundless darkness——
Viking pirates were rampant, the kings and nobles were in conflict, the clergy were greedy and indulged in lust, and prisoners of war and slaves were wailing everywhere.
Edgar, a shipbuilder, was forced to move to a wilderness due to pirate attacks. His life turned around slightly but he lost his loved ones one after another;
Ragna, the daughter of a Norman nobleman, longed to marry in England, but found that the marriage was a long-planned scam;
Friar Aldred, with extraordinary dreams, tried to eliminate the evil trend, but was accidentally involved in the bishop's conspiracy.
The fates of these three people who had nothing to do with each other were closely intertwined because of their desire for justice and fairness...

The characters in this book are all very complicated, but I like Edgar so much. Although he has gone through many hardships, he has never given up hope in life. I also have friends like this around me, and their strength has always encouraged me. I hate Ragna's husband the most. He deceived Ragna's feelings and made her suffer a lot. However, seeing them find their own happiness in the end makes me happy for them. This book made me understand that no matter what difficulties we encounter, we must persist in justice and kindness in our hearts.
It took me 14 hours to finally finish reading this book. From being attracted at the beginning to being unable to stop at the end, I can only praise the author for being so good at telling stories. From his narration, a story unfolds slowly, with each character appearing one after another. There are love and hatred, power and bloodshed, integrity and evil. There are also a large number of realistic scenes, allowing readers to understand Western customs and feelings. Highly recommended for everyone to read.
If this was a farming novel, it would be a god among gods.
I asked why the writing was so good. When I looked at the author's other works, Fall of Giants, no wonder it was so awesome.
The same princess society treats people in completely different ways. Europe actively strives to obtain fairness and equality and uses the most practical way to change lives and change society. Likewise, rulers are constantly introspecting and understanding themselves. All this comes from establishing a fair and equal system and a civilized system to solve problems!
This is a work that deserves attention
It's considered a prequel to Temple Spring and Autumn, but it still feels like the same formula. .
Edgar's story is a bit monotonous at the beginning, but becomes more exciting as it goes on. In a word, Ken Flett never disappoints his readers.
The writing is great, fascinating, and truly a book. It can make people calm down and read it. It is really a pleasure.
The author's storytelling skills are very profound and worth reading.
