The Eldest Princess's Personal Eunuch

By a twist of fate, I became the personal eunuch to the enemy kingdom's eldest princess.

Day after day, I kept her company as she admired flowers and drank tea, rode horses on the battlefield, composed poetry and painted, and watched the sun set.

Rumors had it that she was cruel and wicked, with a heart of poison. She had beaten her wet nurse to death and broken up dozens of couples, including three of the crown prince's betrothals.

But to me, she seemed intelligent, gracious, and understanding, as though no words of praise in the world could do her justice.

One day, she got drunk, fixed her eyes on me, and collapsed onto the bed. Clutching my wildly pounding heart, I didn't know whether to give in or refuse. But to my surprise, she stammered, “Let's elope!” Her eyes were clear, not the least bit drunk. I knew she had long since discovered who I really was.

Half a year later, Chang'an Street was ablaze with splendor. Today was the grand wedding of her and my imperial elder brother, and red lanterns hung from every branch. Yet I couldn't manage even the faintest smile.

“I was born of the direct imperial line. If my elder brother can sit on the throne, so can I.”

Overnight, Chang'an was turned upside down, and the political marriage was put on hold. The people of the kingdom were terrified. They couldn't understand why the Third Prince, always so brotherly and gracious, would commit such an outrageous act and overthrow the dynasty.

What they didn't understand was this: for you, what did it matter if I overturned the world?
