The Black Impermanence of the Mortal Realm

[A ghost officer hunts ghosts, viewing those “unforgettable” romances as an outsider]

Lan Yue was an ordinary overworked office drone who accidentally fell to her death after a wretched breakup. By a twist of fate, she became a civil servant in the Underworld.

Hong Xiu, Lan Yue’s mentor, was also a ghost officer sentenced to a thousand years. The two ghosts had both suffered the same fate. (In fact, they had both once been princesses of fallen kingdoms...)

Even a secure job in the Underworld isn’t easy. Lan Yue’s very first assignment was anything but simple...

Restless souls who died in all sorts of bizarre ways, a terrifying painter, a gigantic black hand blotting out the sky, and even the King of Hell nearly having his throne stolen by a ghost...

Later, Lan Yue became an enforcer sent by the Underworld to the human world. In the guise of a cat, she met a real human-world law enforcer.

After spending day and night together, it wasn’t until his soul vanished after his death that she realized there was more to his identity than met the eye...

(A collection of short stories based on many real-life tales. The ending is not tragic.)
