From childhood, Jiang Beichen had always believed his master was nothing but a shady charlatan who conned people for a living. That changed one day atop Yun Mountain, when the leaders of every major sect arrived, countless immortals appeared above the sea of clouds, and it seemed that every great cultivator in the land had gathered there to lay down a formation powerful enough to strike down Heaven itself.
All of it was arranged for one purpose: to kill a single man, the Daoist renegade who had plunged the world into chaos twenty years ago.
Jiang Beichen could not understand why everyone under Heaven was set against him and his master. Even soaked in blood, he instinctively stood in front of his master, shielding him with his own body.
As death drew near, his master stepped out from behind him and touched a finger to the space between Jiang Beichen’s brows. Jiang Beichen’s eyelids grew heavier and heavier. In his final moments of consciousness, he saw the timid old Daoist who had kept his head down for twenty years stride up into the sky, pointing his sword at the immortals and Buddhas.
