In 2009, a hippopotamus that had once lived in Pablo Escobar's private zoo escaped and was shot dead. The news reminded Antonio Yammara of an old friend, the mysterious Ricardo Laverde.
They met in a pool hall in 1995. Yammara was a young law professor, while Laverde was a down-and-out middle-aged man who had recently been released from prison. For a time, they grew close, nearly becoming confidants who knew each other's secrets.
One day in 1996, they were caught in a street shooting. Laverde died, and Yammara was seriously wounded. He developed post-traumatic stress disorder, and his family life began to teeter on the brink.
Two years later, Yammara returned to the scene of the shooting. To escape his suffering, he had to revisit the past and unravel the mystery that haunted him. Then a call from a stranger sent him on a journey to seek out the past, and many secrets were gradually brought to light.
I especially like the main character Armado, whose tenacity and courage in the face of difficult situations make me admire him very much. Moreover, the story about the mysterious Ricardo Laverde in the book is also fascinating and kept me wondering what the truth was. This book is really worth reading!
A near perfect piece. The history of Latin America does not have to be written in magic
