Good apocalyptic writing is so rare

The protagonist is a novice in the apocalypse, a little green, but not a virgin. The dialogue level of the characters is a bit low, and the language description is not very adult-like. The protagonist is not a lone wolf. After all, he is not dead, and he has some people around him.
