"San Yan" and "Er Pai" are the collective names of five famous collections of legendary novels in the Ming Dynasty. San Yan Er Pai includes "The Ming Yan", "Warning Words" and "Awakening Words to Awaken the World" written by Feng Menglong, as well as "The Surprise at the First Moment" and "The Surprise at the Second Moment" by Ling Shuchu. With one secular story at a time, it has become the pinnacle of Chinese classical short stories in vernacular.
