On New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2008, the sound of porcelain shattering rang out. As the Su family stared in shock, seven-year-old Su Yin looked at her father, Su Ansheng, and said, “Of the eighteen dishes, I put insecticide in eight of them. It was the kind the housekeeper bought and left in the storage room.” She then looked at the terrified crowd and continued, “I was in my brother’s room yesterday, too.”
“Yinyin,” her father, Su Ansheng, called.
Su Yin turned to face Old Master Su and Madam Su. “You have two choices. One: everyone here, including those three.” She pointed at the mother and her two children who had appeared at the dining table. “You can all die by my poison. Two: I leave the Su family and cut ties with you.” After speaking, she looked at her aunt, Su Yue. “Auntie, you’ll always be my aunt.”
Nine-year-old Han Xun was dragged by his best friend to see the newborn baby sister. One glance was all it took for Han Xun to decide that the little baby would be his future wife. Over the years that followed, under Mr. Han’s devoted care, the baby girl eventually became Mrs. Han.
Su Yin’s world suddenly went dark when she was seven. Before then, she had been a carefree little princess. Afterward, she was still a cherished and protected little princess, but six months of that year became the darkest time in her life. Without Han Xun, her world might never have seen sunshine again.
