Discovering Famous Paintings with the Masters (Complete in Three Volumes)

Following the Masters Through Great Paintings (3-Book Set) includes Twenty Lectures on Great Masterpieces of World Art, A History of Chinese Painting, and A Brief History of European Art. Twenty Lectures on Great Masterpieces of World Art is one of Fu Lei’s best-known works. An introductory and essential book for learning to appreciate art and study Western art history, it has been called the “Chinese Art Story.” The book explores 20 great Western artists and their masterpieces from the Renaissance onward, from Giotto to Corot. It covers the great painters of the Renaissance, Baroque, and Romantic periods. A History of Chinese Painting is based on Chen Shizeng’s lecture notes for his 1922 course “A Brief History of Chinese Art” in Jinan. It offers a concise overview of the history of Chinese painting from the Three Dynasties through the Ming and Qing, tracing the development of painting traditions, techniques, subject matter, and major schools and artists. Comprehensive in scope yet concise in language, it is a brief general history of Chinese painting. A Brief History of European Art is a classic work by renowned British art historian Eric Newton, written to introduce the general public to European art history and the fundamentals of art appreciation. Using time as its framework and place as its thread, it interprets artworks and uncovers the stories behind them, while also comparing Eastern and Western art. It brings a thousand years of European art vividly to life.
