The first work of the Metaverse. Let's talk about the shortcomings first: As a classic science fiction novel, it also has some common "classic" flaws. For example, when describing a deliveryman's need to apologize to his boss for overdue delivery, the original text is as follows: "Uncle Enzo himself—the Sicilian Colonel Sanders of Kentucky Fried Chicken, Andy Griffith of Bensonhurst, New York, waved in the courier's nightmare. With the phantom of a razor, the boss and head of Cosa Nostra Pizza will be on the phone with the customer within five minutes, apologizing endlessly." And this kind of sentence abounds in this book (especially in the first half). This complex and lengthy descriptive style, mixed with many unique jokes in the English region, may have been regarded as a humorous style at the time. However, in the eyes of today's readers who value a tight pace and non-European and American cultural circles, unless they use translation annotations and query functions, the initial reading experience will be poor. But once you enter the main plot, the highlights of this book begin to appear one by one. The author's control of the rhythm of the second half is significantly better than that of the previous part, and through a series of climactic plots and foreshadowings, the reader is presented with a bizarre cyberspace future world. There are also many references to other famous works, such as the surveillance and control of employees by the federal unit where the heroine's mother works, which is easily reminiscent of George Orwell's "1984". But what impressed me most about this book was its discussion of philosophy, history, religion, and linguistics. Before the decisive battle, the protagonist's discussion of the book's villain, the "Ashera Virus," is a bold combination of neurolinguistics and modern technology. The part where the protagonist reveals the nature of the "Ashera" neuro-linguistic virus is one of the most wonderful creative points in my opinion. In short, "Avalanche" shows rich imagination and forward-looking in various fields, and is also fascinating and charming.

This book is so cool! I particularly like the protagonist. He is a pizza deliveryman in reality, but in the virtual world he is a super hacker! The author Neal Stephenson is really great. His imagination is so rich. The plot in the book is exciting and contains a lot of knowledge. It feels like watching a Hollywood blockbuster!

A bit brain-burning, but really great! It is a pity that the translation level still has room for improvement, but it will not damage the brilliance of this novel, and it will shine even more brightly in the long run of time!
