I actually got turned into a stepmother! Looking at the four kids in front of me, the eldest was vicious, the second was a simple-minded powerhouse, and the third was gloomy and sinister. Thank goodness the youngest was quiet and well-behaved... or so I thought. I was wrong. The youngest was the most ruthless of them all!

Much later, my birth mother found me. “My child, you’ve had such a hard life! Come home with me and live as a princess!”

The second said, “Mother, I’ll bring an army to find you too!”

The third scratched his head. “Mother, should I bring these poisonous insects and go with you?”

The youngest spoke up. “Mother, you have two choices: become the empress dowager, or go home and be a princess. Actually, being a prince’s consort wouldn’t be bad either!”

I panicked. “How can that be? If you don’t become emperor, who will?”
