Synopsis

2015 marked the 70th anniversary of victory in the World Anti-Fascist War and the War of Resistance Against Japan. Zhang Zizhong was the highest-ranking Chinese officer to die for his country in the War of Resistance. Publishing a work about him at that time carried both historical and contemporary significance. The novel begins with the Central Plains War between Chiang Kai-shek, Feng Yuxiang, and Yan Xishan in 1930, focusing on Zhang Zizhong's loyalty and courage as he resisted foreign aggression in battles such as Xifengkou and Taierzhuang. Even while serving as mayor of Tianjin and Beijing, the extraordinary times meant that his main task remained outwitting and fighting the Japanese invaders. The book not only gives a rounded portrayal of Zhang Zizhong, but also brings secondary and minor characters vividly to life through fluent, concise prose. It unites historical fidelity, artistry, and readability, creating a distinctive literary style and a profound sense of national tragedy.

Looking for Anti-Japanese War Stories With Smart Characters

I like detailed depictions of warfare. I'm not into stories about providing aid or going into business, or weapons from different eras. I just want straightforward military fiction.
