It is the most impressive but also the most inexplicable book I have ever read. I can't say what is good about it, but I have always wanted to read it. It feels like I am involved in the incident, but I have experienced everything without any danger. The ending is very sad. There is no direct description, the thrilling parts are shuddering, and the soft parts are heart-warming. It is really a masterpiece. Those who like it will be unforgettable for a long time, and those who don't like it should just change the book as soon as possible. Maybe one day when I have nothing to do, I will read it again and be enlightened.

This book is the longest novel so far written by Mr. Jia Pingwa over many years. This book mainly tells the story of a place called Gulu Village. The seemingly peaceful village hides huge secrets that make people want to uncover the mystery. The people there prepared a mighty collective movement. The villagers colluded with each other and became a collective. All kinds of human nature are vividly depicted in it, allowing readers to understand the diversity of human nature more immersively.

After reading the whole book, I couldn't calm down for a long time. It didn't feel like a novel. I seemed to have become a certain character in the village, or the village's leader, watching everything that happened. The characters' good, evil, beauty and ugliness were vividly described in the article. I really couldn't get enough of it. I had to read it for two hours every day before going to bed! At the end, I felt that the ending was satisfactory, but it was also unsatisfactory and I couldn't explain the feeling. I was a Shaanxi native last night and felt very warm when I read this book. Most of the time it was written in dialect. I really liked it!

I am an adult from Weihai Rong, Shandong Province. Many of the names in the book are exactly the same as those in my hometown. When I was a child, I only knew how to say them like this, but I didn't know how to write them. As I read it, it slowly reminded me of my childhood more than forty years ago.

From the perspective of the protagonist, "Gu Lu" describes the villagers of Gu Lu, who make a living by firing porcelain, in a remote, closed place like Gu Lu Village that maintains its traditional charm. Catalyzed by various factors, beginning in the winter of 1965, they were forced to be involved in a massive movement. In three years, this place has evolved into a human Shura field full of suspicion, confrontation, and fights. When I got this book, I was really shocked. It was like a brick fired from the kiln. In just about twenty pages at the beginning, there are many characters with the atmosphere of rural scholars.

It feels good, but I'm still dizzy

After three days of burial, a strong wind arose in the river. Every summer, the wind blows in the Zhou River, and the reeds and cattails in the river bank blow up the catkins. The catkins wave like dragons in the air, rising and falling, gathering and scattering. At that time, the kiln farm on the mountainside was about to burn the last kiln of the summer, and the corn in the dry land was almost waist high and needed to be fertilized for the first time. The rice in the paddy field was also at the point where feeding insects were picking. However, the wind started early this year, almost twenty days earlier.

This work fully embodies Jia Pingwa's writing philosophy, that is, novels should be written naturally and vividly, without relying on unpredictable obscurity and overly dramatic plots, but should unfold before the readers' eyes like daily life, making people immersed. After reading "The Ancient Furnace", the people and things in the village disappeared like the wind and left leisurely.

I have always felt that people are inherently good and there is no inherent evil. Now I think it is probably because I was lucky and did not encounter it: poverty makes people prone to cruelty, inequality makes people hateful. Don't think that how you treat others will be how others will treat you. Never believe in truth, there is no truth, no true friendship, no true love, there is only good and ugliness, only time, only the transformation of beauty and ugliness in time.

"The image projected in the heart is God, and this idol will give people strength, so the human heart is empty and fearful. If the cause of an event has begun, it will inevitably create an effect. The entire process is limited and restrained by a specific culture or civilization. This can be called destiny." Jia Pingwa, in simple writing, described in detail a village that was forced to be involved in a massive movement. The peaceful village with clear mountains and rivers turned into a ruin of the humanistic spirit amid the illusory and concrete interests of "politics".

This book is long but fascinating. It uses the story of a village to reflect the human nature of that special era. Ping Wa's writing style is delicate and vivid, depicting the landscape and characters of Gulu Village. As he said in the postscript, "Their blood was black water. They ran out and died quietly in that big basket." It makes people feel the helplessness and sadness of that era. Recommended reading!

Gulu Village is a village that exists in the book, but Jia Pingwa's description is very real. The earthen walls, livestock, and villagers made me feel that Gulu Village really exists in a corner of northern China. Gou Diaoti is not a traditional outstanding protagonist. He is very ordinary, unpopular, and lonely, but I like him very much because he makes me feel friendly. Such a person is like someone I can see around me. This book reflects the rural social conditions of a specific historical period in China and is highly readable.
