The story takes place in a newly developed region in southeastern China, covering an area of up to thirty million square meters. Rich in resources and blessed with talented people, it is now home to migrants who make up eighty percent of the population.
Since the region borders a river to the east, the local government named it Dongjiang Province. Huangtong is a city in the western part of Dongjiang. By day, people go to work and lead busy lives. But at night, the city fills with evil and violence.
Huangtong's nighttime scenery is nothing like the breathtaking sights described in books. The peaceful atmosphere in the air may soothe the soul, and the brightly colored bars and karaoke halls lining both sides of the road may seem like irresistible places to while away the hours, the perfect spots for leisure and entertainment.
The neon lights look especially alluring in the night, while pedestrians hurry back and forth along the roads, scrambling to make a living. Perhaps they do it to survive, perhaps for their families. Their lives, spent leaving early and returning late, have become routine.
In the middle of the road, people argue endlessly over trivial matters. A single remark can spark a brawl that leaves someone injured. Some will stop at nothing to grab what belongs to others for their own selfish gain. Greed drives people to pursue money, power, and status, only to end up defeated. Perhaps they were just trying to save face.
And so the story begins...
This book first talks about school study and life, and then turns to the social aspect, talking about human nature, morality and youth without regrets. However, the first few chapters of the book are relatively simple and do not tell the colorfulness of school study and life, which is a bit immature and lacking.
It's a pretty good novel, I hope it doesn't end badly.
The first few chapters show the happy daily life of young people, but I don't know what will happen next.
