According to the instructions of the Government Affairs Council of the Central People's Government, the Ministry of Railways established the Railway Bridge Committee in January 1950, and in March of the same year established the Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge surveying and drilling team and design team. Mao Yi, a Chinese bridge expert, was promoted to the leader of the expert team and began preliminary exploration and surveys. The expert group made a total of eight bridge site line plans and conducted careful studies one by one. After the final bridge site selection plan was approved by the Central Financial and Economic Committee, the Ministry of Railways immediately organized forces to carry out preliminary design. The preliminary design was completed in March 1953, Soviet experts were hired for guidance and the Soviet Ministry of Transport was entrusted with appraising the design plan. On July 18, 1955, the State Council approved the technical design plan of the bridge, as well as the construction progress and overall budget.

I especially like the description of bridge experts such as Mao Yisheng in the book. Their wisdom and persistence are admirable. At the same time, I also have full respect for the construction team back then. However, I don't like some of the technical content in the book, which makes it a bit obscure to read. Overall, this is a good book worth reading and recommended to friends who are interested in architecture.
