Goguryeo (37 BC - 668 AD), also referred to as Goguryeo, was an important frontier nation that emerged in the Northeast from the Western Han Dynasty to the Sui and Tang Dynasties. The Goguryeo royal city, royal tombs, noble tombs and tomb murals located in Ji'an City, Jilin Province are classics of the glorious civilization created by Goguryeo. Known as the "treasure house of Northeast Asian art", the Goguryeo mural tombs record the special culture of ancient Northeastern ethnic minorities in China and are a wonder of five thousand years of Chinese civilization. The tombs of Chinese Goguryeo nobles, including some mural tombs, have been included in the World Heritage List.
