The Pearl of Electric Power - Construction of Xin'an River and Qingtongxia Hydropower Stations in Liujiaxia

In June 1952, leaders of the Ministry of Fuel Industry Zhang Tiezhenghe, Xu Qiashi and others wrote the "Report on the Development of Xin'an River Hydropower Resources", proposing to build a 110-meter-high dam in Luotongbu to solve the problem of insufficient power supply in East China for 10 or even 20 years. This proposal was quickly approved by Chen Yun and Li Fuchun, the leading group for the preparation of the First Five-Year Plan, and agreed to be included in key infrastructure projects. In the same year, my country's exploration personnel developing the Xin'an River and a group of geological experts from the Soviet Union conducted a comprehensive exploration of the entire Xin'an River basin and finally determined that the Tongguan Dam section of the Xin'an River Hydropower Station was selected. On the morning of May 24, 1954, the East China Bureau General Office approved the construction plan of the Xin'anjiang Hydropower Station, and the construction of the hydropower station entered the implementation stage.
