Nationwide Mobilization: The People’s Liberation Army Heads to Sichuan for Earthquake Relief

Though Republic Stories is a collection of stories, it has nothing to do with embellishing history. We simply hope to record this period of history in accessible, moving prose. This 500-volume series brings together 500 major historical events that had a profound impact on the history of the Republic. In planning the series, we have tried to select and recount events from each era that are representative or broadly significant, so that they can reflect the full picture and course of the Republic’s development. To keep the subjects from being too broad and vague, we focus on the origins, processes, outcomes, dates, locations, and people involved in each major historical event, paying attention to the details and seemingly small matters in an effort to provide a thorough account.
