In the early years of the Republic of China, in order to break the cage, the May Fourth Movement held high the banner of democratic science and thoroughly criticized traditional culture; later, as Westernization deepened, we replaced the concurrent study of Chinese studies with Western subject classifications, and the excessive emphasis on science and technology severed traditional Chinese cultural concepts; to this day, some of us are keen on Western festivals, Western fast food, and the use of Western technology. Everything we see is imported culture. If this continues for a long time, if Western learning flourishes and Chinese learning declines, society will be filled with various problems such as the expansion of scientific and technological rationality, confusion about the value of life, shallow moral awareness, and conflicts between man and nature, all of which need to be solved urgently.
