Xia Nanxi, a girl from an ordinary family, and Zhao Youchuan, a top student, meet after a series of misunderstandings at the start of their first year of high school. The male lead dreams of becoming a pilot, but his mother keeps him under strict control, forcing him to focus on his studies. Later, they become friends after a bike ride. Together, they set up the second male lead, Xiao Zhe, with the second female lead, Liang Yue'er, and Zhao Youchuan also tutors Xia Nanxi in math. Before long, the two develop feelings for each other. When Zhao Youchuan confesses, a misunderstanding leads to him being rejected. After they are placed in different classes in their second year, he confesses again and succeeds, and they start dating. In their final year of high school, Xia Nanxi sees Zhao Youchuan kissing another girl, and they break up. Devastated, Xia Nanxi undergoes a major change in personality and throws herself into studying, achieving an exceptional result in the college entrance exams. Zhao Youchuan, however, does poorly and loses touch with them. In his second year of university, Zhao Youchuan goes back to repeat the exams. His mother dies unexpectedly, and he falls into a deep slump. Eventually, he gets into the university of his dreams and fulfills his ambition. Xiao Zhe and Liang Yue'er also end up together. Zhao Youchuan and Xia Nanxi run into each other several times without ever managing to meet. Later, Zhao Youchuan travels to the UK to find Xia Nanxi, who is pursuing a graduate degree in the subject she loves. The two finally meet on the street.
