This work is based on the six high school dormitory classmates Gong Dagang, Cai Zhitian, Chen Qiangjun, Li Jiajun, Wang Xianming, and Gu Huahui, representing workers, farmers, soldiers, academics, businessmen, and officials respectively. It details their study, love, work, and career, etc. It reflects the sophistication, joys and sorrows, and struggles of their generation in the two decades since the early 1990s.
