Pingjiang Buxiaosheng (1889-1957), whose names are Xiang Kairan and Xiang Kui, and whose pen name is also signed Buxiaosheng, was born in Pingjiang, Hunan. A famous modern martial arts novelist. He was the first martial arts novelist in the 1920s and led the martial arts trend in the south. He has studied both literature and martial arts since he was a child, and has profound attainments in both literature and martial arts. In 1922, he began to concentrate on martial arts creation. His debut martial arts novels "The Legend of Jianghu" and "The Legend of Modern Chivalrous Heroes" established his position in modern martial arts. He wrote twelve martial arts novels in his lifetime, most of which were martial arts legends or weird folklore stories. His martial arts novels basically broke away from the traditional model, so he is known as "the founder of martial arts novels in the Republic of China". "Magic Needle" is a collection of short stories, including five novels: "He Baozi", "Qin Heqi", "Magic Needle", "Liang Lanchan", and "Yang Dengyun".
