In nineteenth-century Paris, poor Jean Valjean stole bread for a starving child. As a result, he was sentenced to 19 years of hard labor by a judge who was fed all day long. After being released from prison, the desperate Jean Valjean was taken in by the kind-hearted Bishop Miriam for the night, but he stole the bishop's silverware and fled, and was later captured by the police. The bishop claimed that the silverware was given to him, saving Valjean from arrest. The bishop's words and deeds influenced Jean Valjean, who changed his name to Madeleine. He changed his mind and worked hard. Ten years later, he became a successful businessman and the mayor. At this time, Sheriff Javert, who had arrested him before, appeared, bent on causing trouble for him. During this period, Jean Valjean learned of the tragic experience of prostitute Fantine and promised to take care of her illegitimate daughter Cosette. Eight years have passed, and the peaceful life is in trouble again - Cosette falls in love with the republican youth Marius, and the vigorous Parisian people's uprising breaks out...

I haven't finished reading the Marius chapter yet, so I'll check it out here first. Let's just say that Marius is so perseverant and I admire his character, but I always feel that he may have a slightly one-sided understanding of his father... I have to say that the author created the character very well, and the part about Marius as a passionate young man was really fun to watch! Some passages are also truly thought-provoking and thought-provoking...
The world two hundred years ago is no different from the world today. The ugliness and beauty of human nature, the warmth and cruelty of society will always exist! Awesome book!
The characters in Les Miserables are much luckier than the characters in The Sino-Japanese War. Their suffering is less than one-tenth of that of the Chinese. The author is brilliant. World famous classics.
I especially like the character of Jean Valjean. His transformation allows me to see the kindness and tolerance of human nature. However, I kind of hate that Sheriff Javert, he always makes trouble for Jean Valjean. Overall, this is a book worth reading and it made me think more deeply about the world.
