Urban Nightwalkers: Rest in Peace

My name is He Liu, but people call me the Harbinger of Doom.

It’s not that I’m unlucky. I just always see people before they die. More precisely, I see things that should be dead but aren’t quite gone yet.

Tonight, in this alley, a punk with green hair is cursing at the darkness. He doesn’t know that a pair of hands has already closed around his neck from behind.

I don’t know either that the old man writhing on the ground will be the most difficult case I encounter this year.

He died seven years ago. His obsession became a wind that led me to a single-story house. Inside, a baby was crying, traffickers were haggling over a price, and a whole roomful of souls awaited deliverance.

They said that if I could help them find peace, they would tell me a secret

About the shop hidden deep inside an abandoned arcade.

About its petite owner, a girl in a punk princess dress.

About everything in this city that should never wake in the middle of the night.

I’m He Liu.

I’m no sorcerer or Taoist priest. I’m just a ferryman who helps the dead move on.

If you run into me at the mouth of an alley late at night

Don’t ask for directions.

Run.
